S/Y Ellen vid hemmahamnen på Fåglarö © MB & ML 1995The sailing site www.ellennet.com is named after the IF boat S/Y Ellen. In the 90th, she was one of the first western yachts to visit the former closed areas in the east.

We have kept the name of the site, showing that you can travel to distant shores, even with a small boat.

On the IF boat

S/Y Ellen is an IF-boat. The IF-boat (built in plastic) has, generally speaking, the same qualities as it's predecessor, the Nordic Folkboat (made of wood) Both boats are constructed by Tord Sundén.

Ellen is not big at all, but still a good sailor. She is also stable and steady in the sea, due to her long keel. At shorter trips, she easily takes four persons. On longer voyages you could only be three if you are interested in any comfort at all. The sailing capacity have been a priority for the IF, not the comfort.

The sailing capacity makes the IF-boat a popular race-boat. IF you want to know more on the the IF-boat and the international races, visit the homepage of the Swedish IF-boat association.

Short on ELLENnet

With ELLENnet we want to inspire to more yachting cruises eastwards. This is done by publishing practical information for sailors. But we do not stop with the harbour information. Instead we go on and tell on culture, history and nature.

Much of the information on the pages are our own, but we also link to ofter sites there you find more information and images.

What was once a private sailing site on a small yacht, have developed into  the leading sailing resource on East Baltic waters. It has been possible since many sailors contact us and keep us informed on news in harbours and on interesting places. In 2008 we have taken this even further by introducing a forum and the possibility to comment our information directly on the site. Welcome to share your sailing experiences!  ELLENnet EOF sign
