After the early 18th century wars against Russia , the border between Swedemn and Russia was moved westwards. The town Loviisa was founded 1745 as a bordertown. Outside the town, the fortress Svartholm was constructed.
Today, Loviisa is an idyllic small town.
In the old town remains many wooden houses, escaping from a fire in 1845. At Skeppbron guestharbour you find many cafes and shops.
