 On the opposite side of the Bay, at the eastern harbour of Mariehamn. the Lemström canal, leads to the Bay of Lumparn. This route offers a shortcut through mainland Åland. The bridge at the canal has scheduled opening hours.
The Bay of Lumparn is not large, but it has a bad reputation. In bad weather the sea gets choppy. For this reason, a voyage on Lumparn, is mostly a transportation leg to more attractive places. Our favorites are the old castle of Kastelholm in the north, and the ruins of Bomarsund fortress in NE.
