Jurmo is an island situated 7 M NE of Utö. The island has been inhabited since medieval times. It has today a viable outer-skerry community. Until the 70s, it was a fishing community. Today the inhabitants is mostly occupied with small scale tourism.
Distinctive nature
The Jurmo island is a western runner of Salpausselkäåsen, a
geological formation that runs through large parts of Finland. Jurmo is
largely a long gravel which winds into the sea. Nature is harsh.
