Utö island is situated at the Finnish side of the border to the demilitarized Åland archipelago.
Utö has a Coast guard station, but is also of military importance as Finland's naval outpost in SW. Despite the naval presence, it is possible to sail along the fairway, and also to call the harbour. Along with Hangö at Finland proper, this is an important place to call when sailing to or from Estonia in SE.
Approaching
Utö can be approached from the Sea or via one of the passing archipelago fare ways. In Finnish yachting charts you find a harbour chart with detailed information.
The island
Visiting Utö you have to call the official jetty in the harbour. Utö has an old lighthouse.
