The Björkskär archipelago is a group of islands in the outer archipelago, owned by Lidingö municipality. On the main island, Björkskär, stands a cottage open for guesting visitors. You can stay the night here, but this is something not very common in summertime.
Approaching
The approach NW/SW over the open water Björköfjärden offers few problems. It is however outside the fairways, so you have to plot a route keeping you away from the difficulties on the open water.
To berth at Björkskär, you need a pilot or a special high magnification chart.
The havens
There are two berthing options at the main island Björkskär.
The cottage, standing on the E. side of the island is visible from the strait which divides the island group in a western and an eastern part. Here stains a big wooden jetty with places for guesting yachts. There are other options too in harbour lagoon. The final approach can be difficult since there is a sunken rock blocking the harbour entrance. The trick is to follow the line of small skerries on port side steering towards the jetty itself, until you are very, very close to the jetty itself. When you have passed by the shallow, steer hard into the lagoon.
It is tempting to steer behind of berthing yachts, instead of the jetty. That will not work. You have to wait steering into the lagoon until there are only a few meters left to the jetty.
There is a deep strait on the N. side of Björkskär between Björkskär proper and the Bakstamskobbarna islets. This is the other berthing option. You can berth on both side of the strait.
The island
Björskär is a typical outer archipelago island, yet providing sheltered havens. In the "guest harbour" you can even find outdoor grills for lending. There is also a public sauna, but you are supposed to bring some wood, since this is rare here. The right to public access to Swedish nature gives you no right to cut down existing trees. |
